London - France

1ST May 2004

Last minute preparations were spent by AD dancing away at a best friend’s wedding and Ranger getting lashed in Putney with friends.

2nd May 2004

On the day of departure, AD drove to Fulham and picked up Ranger after some last minute frantic photocopying and then on to the Pitcher & Piano for the big old wave off. The turn out was touching for both of us and a perfect send off - albeit the smart vehicle getting wrapped up in gaylord pink loo roll and having eggs and tomatoes lobbed at her…..ahhhhh…..a quick stop in the nearest Shell garage was required 100m down the road! Oh, and cheers Knockers for the pressies!!

After dropping Mike (mate of Ranger) off in Cantebury, we arrived at Dover for our 6pm Hoverspeed ferry which was spent replying to drunken texts and calls from all the piss heads we left still in the P&P….blatantly taking advantage of the Monday bank holiday - the result we wanted….!!
With Eminem blasting out, we caned it south from Calais and eventually stopped after 4hrs in a tiny French village, erected the roof tent and awning, cooked a quick pasta (after having to crawl under a dining room window to a tap to steal some water – the b*stards in the Uk had opened our water tap when we left!!) and the hit the sack at 12am hoping for a good nights sleep…..ranger snores!! and although we hadn’t even reached the land of wildlife yet, the horses, dogs, ducks and some random bird in a tree that blatantly doesn’t need sleep meant we didn’t get that 8 hrs much needed shut eye.
3rd May 2004

We blasted through France in 14 hrs with loo few stops (mostly for AD’s pea sized bladder), 95 Euro worth of tolls and one fill up of 90 Euro….. hitting Monaco at 9.30pm to stay with one of AD’s many celeb contacts, Ferrari 575 race driver ace, Mark Mayall who lives in a flat opposite casino overlooking the infamous hairpin with spectacular views across the med – amazing – apart from the damn weather! Mark and his girlfriend, Abbey, were superb hosts and allowed us to do some more last minute organising before heading off for the Genoa ferry.
